The Google Play store will soon receive another design overhaul according to Kirill Grouchnikov, a Google employee who has worked in the company's Google Play division for the past six years. The new design features two main tabs, more color, and smooth animations.
The new two tab design in the redesigned Google Play organizes content into either "Apps & Games" (apps and games) or "Entertainment" (movies, TV shows, music, books, and newsstand) sections. This is helpful because it clearly separates the software from the media in Google Play.
In addition to the tabbed interface, more color has been added to Google Play in its redesign, including large, colorful cover photos at the top of the screen while browsing for apps or entertainment. Colorful rounded buttons have been added as well.

The redesign also includes new animations, such as the status bar taking on the color of the tab bar when the user scrolls down past the cover photo, as shown above. There is also a pleasing new animation when switching between the "Apps & Games" and "Entertainment" tabs, which is displayed above as well.
